Projects
The MPA sole objective is to undertake fundraising and development of projects for the betterment of the Minyip community.
Emmas Building
Emmas Bulding was gifted to the Progress Associstion. It was the site of Emma’s garage in the Crawford series of The Flying Doctors. The building has been kept as it was for the series, with extensive repairs. The building is currently leased out for Coopers Crossing Café and the Yarriambiack Library.
Future works include new public toilets and kitchen.
Saddlers Second Hand Shop
Saddlers Second Hand Shop receives donations of second hand goods from residents and resells them. The shop is run by volunteers and contributes significantly to the income of Progress for the benefit of the town.
Fuel Site
When the last fuel supply in Minyip was closed, Progress purchased the site from Grain Corp.
The site was developed to provide an unmanned depot providing ULP, Diesel and Ad-Blue. The site also contained 2 sheds which have been utilized as storage. The site is leased to Bonney Energy and a portion of sales returns to the benefit of the community.
Caravan Park
The caravan park has been developed and is operated by the Minyip Progress Association. It now includes 12 caravan sites 2 recently constructed cabins, amenities building, BBQ facilities, fire pit and playground. The site includes the Minyip wetlands which is home to the endangered Rice Flower plant. An exercise track runs through the wet lands.
Smith Park
Smith Park is owned and maintained by the MPA and was developed as a rest area for travelers through Minyip. The park was developed by a grant from Covid safe outdoor activation projects sponsored by Dept of Jobs, Precincts and Regions of Vic State Government. The MPA undertook the installation of all landscape . Innovative tables and chairs were constructed from old wagon wheels . Sculptures constructed by local metal worker Mick Chenaworth are included.
Show and Shine
The MPA operate a annual car and motorbike show and shine in February each year. The event is proving very popular attracting enthusiasts from across the state.
Housing
Minyip Progress Association has established a new housing company and is an equal shareholder with The Wimmera Southern Mallee Development Association, in the Minyip Housing Innovations Pty Ltd, (MHIP) . This is a special purpose vehicle as defined by ASIC. The objectives of MHIP is to acquire land and develop new housing within the township of Minyip to meet the unsatisfied demand for new housing.
